Boone County Arrest Records and Charges
Boone County arrest records begin on the law-enforcement and jail side. After an arrest, a person may appear in the Boone County Jail inmate search if housed at the jail. The jail roster is the better source for current custody and booking status, while the court record is the better source for formal charges, arraignment, bond orders, disposition, and sentencing. The Boone County Jail is operated by Jailer Jason Maydak at 3020 Conrad Lane, and jail questions can go to 859-334-2143.
Court charges after arrest are different. The charge record begins when a complaint, citation, information, indictment, or related charging document is filed with the court. District Criminal handles arraignments, misdemeanors, traffic offenses, violations, and felony preliminary hearings. Felony cases can later move to Circuit Criminal after indictment. For the full case file, plea, disposition, and sentence, use Boone County criminal court records.
Boone County Booking to Arraignment
The research shows a clear local path from jail booking to the first court event. The Boone County Jail roster can show current, released, or all inmates, and the county current-inmates page says the tool provides up-to-date booking details and custody status. The visible result columns include first name, middle name, last name, booking date, scheduled release date, and detail links.
After arrest in Boone County, a person may appear first in the jail roster if housed at Boone County Jail. Boone District Criminal has video arraignment dockets from jail at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in Courtroom 1A according to the local schedule. District Criminal then handles arraignments, misdemeanors, traffic matters, violations, and felony preliminary hearings. Bond information and posting are coordinated with the jail and clerk bookkeeping.

Boone County Charges After Arrest
A charging document is the court-facing record that states the alleged offense. Boone County research identifies criminal case files that can include a complaint or citation, arrest warrant or summons, indictment, arraignment entry, bond order, motions, plea, disposition, sentencing order, probation condition, restitution, fines or costs, and failure-to-appear entries. The charging document starts the accusation, while later court entries show what happened to each charge.
| Document | Filed By or Source | Boone County Use |
|---|---|---|
| Complaint | Officer or prosecutor | May start a criminal case by stating the sworn allegation or offense facts. |
| Citation | Law enforcement | Common for traffic, misdemeanor, or violation matters handled in District Criminal. |
| Information | Prosecutor | Can be used for formal prosecution where Kentucky procedure permits. |
| Indictment | Grand jury | Used for felony prosecution in Circuit Criminal after grand jury action. |
The Commonwealth's Attorney official site is one source for felony prosecution context in Boone County.
Felony charges are not complete as court records until the court file reflects the charging action and later docket events.
Boone County Charge Status Terms
A Boone County court charge record can change over time. One arrest may produce more than one charge. A charge can be pending at arraignment, amended after review, reduced through plea talks, dismissed by court order, or replaced by an indictment. The docket should be read charge by charge, because the case outcome may not be the same for every count.
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Pending | The charge is open and has not reached a final disposition. |
| Amended | The charge details changed, often to correct or modify the accusation. |
| Reduced | The charge moved to a lower offense level or lesser offense. |
| Dismissed | The charge was ended by court action and did not result in conviction. |
| Indicted | A felony accusation moved to Circuit Criminal after grand jury action. |
| Failure to appear | The docket may show warrant or FTA activity if a required appearance was missed. |

Boone County Charge vs Conviction
An arrest and a charge are not the same as a conviction. Arrest records and court charges document an event and an accusation. A conviction appears only after a guilty plea, guilty verdict, or other conviction result. Boone County court charge records can include dropped, dismissed, amended, or reduced charges, so each count must be read with its own disposition.
| Point | Charge | Conviction |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | Accusation after arrest, citation, complaint, or indictment. | Final guilt outcome after plea, verdict, or court finding. |
| Proof level | Based on charging and probable-cause processes. | Requires a guilty plea or proof beyond a reasonable doubt at trial. |
| Where it appears | Charge list, complaint, citation, indictment, or arraignment entry. | Disposition and sentencing sections of the court case file. |
| Can be expunged | Some dismissed, acquitted, or non-indicted charges may qualify. | Some convictions may qualify only if Kentucky statutory conditions are met. |
Boone County Bond After Arrest
Bond can appear in both the custody and court sides of the arrest-to-charge path. The Boone Circuit Clerk lists Personal Recognizance or OR, Unsecured, Surety, Cash, Partially Secured 10%, and Property bonds. OR is a signature promise to appear. Unsecured is a signature bond with a dollar amount. Surety uses a third party who is responsible for appearance and bond release. Cash requires the full bail amount paid to court. Partially secured bonds use a 10% deposit, and property bonds pledge Kentucky real estate at twice the bond amount above encumbrances and exemptions.
Bond posting and payment questions may involve the Boone County Jail, Circuit Court Clerk bookkeeping, and the court docket. The clerk research states bond releases cannot be processed after 3:30 p.m. and that payments can be made in person, online, by phone, by mail, or by dropbox only under the local conditions described by Bookkeeping.

Boone County Criminal History Reports
Statewide criminal-history reports are not the same as Boone County arrest records or court charges after arrest. The AOC background-check process includes all misdemeanor and traffic cases for at least the last five years and felonies dating back to 1978. It excludes confidential case types such as juvenile, mental health, and domestic violence matters. Use that report when the need is a statewide record report, and use KYeCourts or the Circuit Court Clerk when the need is the local court charge file.
For custody status after an arrest, the Boone County Jail roster and jail phone line are more direct than the criminal-history report. For a sentenced state offender or supervision record, Kentucky Offender Online Lookup is a separate state corrections tool. That distinction matters because jail custody, court charges, state criminal history, and state correctional supervision are different records held by different custodians.
Boone County Sealed Expunged Charges
Kentucky expungement rules can affect both arrest-related charge records and criminal court records. Boone's local expungement page says acquittal, dismissal, or failure-to-indict expungements can be filed 90 days from dismissal date on AOC 497.2 and returned to Circuit Clerk window 3. Dismissal expungements have no charge and no expungement certificate requirement. District Criminal guilty plea expungements can be filed five years from disposition date after obtaining an expungement certificate from AOC, with AOC 496.2, the certificate, and payment filed with the Circuit Clerk.
| Point | Sealed | Expunged |
|---|---|---|
| Public access | Restricted from ordinary public view. | Removed or deleted after a valid court order and required processing. |
| Boone examples | Juvenile, adoption, mental-health, domestic-violence-sensitive, or court-sealed material. | Eligible dismissals, acquittals, failures to indict, some guilty pleas, and certain DUI cases. |
| Effect | The clerk or court controls access. | AOC says agencies answer that no record exists after expungement is complete. |
Boone notes that dismissed or diverted successful diversion cases and dismissed-with-prejudice or acquittal cases on or after July 15, 2020 are automatically expunged after 30 days, excluding traffic cases. After the order is signed, agency clearing may take up to six weeks.
Restricted Boone County Charge Records
Some Boone County arrest records and court charge records are restricted. Juvenile records are generally confidential under KRS 610.340, and local schedules identify District Juvenile dockets as confidential. Mental-health and Casey's Law hearings are closed in Boone District Civil schedules. Domestic violence and protective order records may show some docket information, but victim addresses, identifying details, and protected material can be withheld.
Important: A charge record is an accusation record, so check the disposition before treating it as a final outcome.
